Bangladesh Consulate celebrated "Sheikh Russel Day – 2023” on 18 October 2023 on the occasion of the 60th birthday of Shaheed Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner.

02.     At the beginning of the ceremony, the Head of Mission, Zakir Ahmed along with the guests and officials of the Consulate placed floral wreaths to the portrait of Shaheed Sheikh Russel. Then the officers of the Mission read out the messages of the Hon’ble President and Hon'ble Prime Minister on the occasion. A documentary in memory of Shaheed Sheikh Russel was also screened. Bangladesh Consulate organized a seminar on this occasion highlighting the memories of Shaheed Sheikh Russel and the cruelty against a young child.  At the seminar, the speakers stated that they could speak about many political assassinations in history. But killing Sheikh Russel was the most brutal. During any conflict or political turmoil, nobody deliberately kills young children but these perpetrators did the unthinkable heinous act which is undoubtedly a crime against humanity. 

03.     Head of Mission, Zakir Ahmed also spoke on the occasion. At the beginning of his speech, he paid deep respect to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Recalling the brutal killings of Shaheed Sheikh Russel on 15 August 1975, he said that If you ask a question about what was the crime committed by this young child, he said that the only crime of an innocent child (Sheikh Russel) was carrying the blood of Father of the Nation and the ruthless hearts of those savage killers did not tremble while tearing down Russel's small chest with bullets. At the end of the program, special prayers were offered in the congregation of the members of the Consulate for the departed soul of Father of the Nation, Sheikh Russel, martyred members of his family, and Martyred freedom fighters and the continued peace and prosperity of the country.

04.    Earlier, an Art Competition was organized by the Consulate where students of Paragu School, Rakhine participated in the competition at the Consulate’s premises. Gifts were distributed among all the students, and lunch was served.

05.     In the third segment of the program, all the officers and members of the Mission celebrated Sheikh Russel's birthday along with the orphans (local) at ABC Orphanage in Rakhine. It may be noted that the Consulate organized this event despite the difficult situation due to the ongoing civil war in Rakhine. Later, the Mission officials cut a cake to celebrate the day. It may be noted that the orphans also did a prayer ceremony on the occasion. The Consulate provided special food (dinner) and baby food items to the infants of the orphanage. At the end of the event, special gifts were distributed among the orphans.
